What is the Maison des Savoir-Faire ?

The birth of Maison des Savoir-Faire

The Maison des Savoir-Faire concept was born in the mind of designer agnès b., who for several years had been keen to highlight the very best in craftsmanship and know-how from every region of France.

She met Fabienne Colboc, Member of Parliament for Indre-et-Loire, who suggested that she set up the first pilot house in this département, which boasts a wealth of arts and crafts, as well as a dynamic pool of artists. The Mayor of Villaines-les-Rochers, Marie-Annette Bergeot, was immediately won over by the idea, which represents an opportunity to enhance the village’s tourist appeal, and is in keeping with the village’s specific artisanal character.

Indeed, the wicker-weaving industry, historically anchored in Villaines-les-Rochers, represents an ideal opportunity to set up a reference model for other regions with craft skills to develop. This model is based on the activities initially proposed by the Espace Culturel Osier-Vannerie.

The inauguration

The inauguration of the Maison des Savoir-Faire’s Cultural Center took place on May 6, 2023, in the presence of agnès b. and Rima Abdul-Malak, Minister for Culture.

The Maison des Savoir-Faire

The aim is to create a center in the village of Villaines les Rochers to showcase the skills and know-how of the Centre Val de Loire region. Indeed, the French territory is brimming with the know-how that makes our regions so rich. While these are an integral part of the history of our regions and their appeal, they often remain little-known.

The Maison des Savoir-Faire offers activities such as workshops, exhibitions, demonstrations, artist residencies, events, the hosting of craftspeople in shared spaces, as well as information activities for young people. It relies on two venues: the cultural center and the shared craft center.
